The Economic and Social Council

About

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six main organs of the United Nations. It was set up in 1945 to guide and coordinate global work on various issues relating to economics, culture, health, and so many more.

ECOSOC brings together 54 elected member states (three-year terms) and over 1,600 NGOs that hold consultative status and actively discuss and debate.

The ECOSOC meets every July for its major session which focuses on setting policies, reviewing development goals, and assessing many global challenges.

It contains many vital segments like the High‑Level Political Forum, Humanitarian Affairs, Coordination, Operational Activities, and Management. These segments make ECOSOC act as the engine of progress, in which bold debates shape policies and progress towards the UN’s 2030 Agenda.

In MUN, ECOSOC becomes the stage where delegates tackle real-world economic and social challenges. Here, delegates don’t just debate; they build solutions, draft resolutions and recommendations that could inspire real world policies.
